This week’s is
5 Comic Book Heroes I Would Like To See With Their Own Series or Movie I changed it to 5 Comic Books You Would Like To See Made into a Series or Movie.
I’m glad I waited until last minute to write this list. Because when I got home from work today, I changed into my PJs, ate some Chinese food and grabbed Volume 1 of Rat Queens and started reading. My husband brought it home from the comic book store on Tuesday for me, and said that they recommended it to me based on the fact that I love playing Dungeons and Dragons, and he was so right!!
Rat Queens is about a group of badass adventurers whose quests very closely resemble the type of shenanigans that my friends and I tend to encounter when we play our different campaigns. When we’re playing, and I picture the scene we’re playing out in my head, it very closely matches what goes on in the book, and I LOVE that! It’s hilarious, it’s witty and it really makes you want to kick ass! The artwork and illustrations are vivid and awesome.
Reading this made me want three things. First, it REALLY made me want to put together an all girl D&D group, second, it made me really want to see this made into a TV show or movie, and Third, it made me really wish I had Vol. 2 so I could keep going.
I know I know, there’s only a few issues out, but I’m already hooked and in love with the series. In the issues that have been released alone, there’s enough for an entire movie! It would look so rad on screen if they stuck with the pulp/grindhouse feel that the artwork portrays!
Bitch Planet is a gritty sci-fi series about a future where women who are deemed “non-compliant” are sent to prison on a distant planet. The prisoners range from thieves and murders, to women who are no longer wanted by their husbands. This series is everything I have ever wanted in comic book form.
Honestly, I am actually shocked that this hasn’t been made into a movie or tv series yet. It’s got all the elements one could ask for to create an awesome series or trilogy. There are so many characters and so many story arcs and spin offs, you could pick and choose and have a field day. Or take a page out of Marvel’s playbook, and give a movie to each character/story arc, and then get them together to have a grand ol’ time in a larger Fables movie! It makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
I know that this one is still young too, but seeing as how they’re doing Captain Marvel with Carol Danvers, they should just replace Thor with … well lets not say her name, just in case you haven’t read the series yet. I’m sure Chris Hemsworth is probably getting tired of wielding the mighty hammer, maybe step aside and give someone else a turn? When I picked up issue one, and turned to the last page, and saw that the Mjolnir now reads “If SHE be worthy..”, words can not express how pumped I got!
Can you tell that I’m practically begging for strong female comic book characters to get their own movies or TV series? Yes, this year gave us Peggy Carter and Scarlet Witch, but I want something that’s different, someone who I can relate to a bit. Lets get some Ms. Marvel! This doesn’t mean that I am BEYOND ecstatic about the announce Captain Marvel movie that is coming out in a few years. I’m just saying, while Marvel is on the subject, it would be pretty awesome if they threw in a Ms. Marvel movie too! Oh, sorry, is two female centric super hero movies too many for you? Yeah, lets give the guys another one, they deserve it..”But Megan, Marvel’s put Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Gamora in a few movies.” Shaddup. Lets switch it around, and have movies where we throw in a few men who vastly out number the women, and then we’ll talk.</endrant> Sorry.. got off topic there
Anyway, I wish Kamala Khan was around when I was 16! I totally would have wanted to have her as my best friend, and she would have been an awesome role model! I mean, she’s a superhero who writes fanfic! GIVE IT TO ME NOW MARVEL!
